Seeking Knowledge
Hello everyone and welcome back! May this page reaches you well. In this post, I will share with you about the second week of usrah. The usrah was conducted online due to some issues that we couldn't avoid. The instructor showed us a video about seeking knowledge. After that, she will explain and ask us to talk and share our understandings and thoughts about the video.
In seeking knowledge, there is 3 stages that we need to follow.
1.Intention.
We as the seekers of knowledge should always renew our intention. Our hearts are always changing, some days we are okay and some days we are lost. Because of that, we need to always reflect on ourselves and fix our intention in seeking knowledge. Whatever we do, we need to do it for the sake of Allah, not for some kind of thing such as popularity or to gain love from others.
2.Seek knowledge.
We should always try to seek knowledge. There is no limitation of time or age for seeking knowledge. Be it we are a kid, or an old folk, it is always valid for us to have the passion to know something, and so, we seek knowledge in the areas we want to. Regarding this, I had an experience of knowing someone that is so determined in her life. She was my classmate in a course that I took during the last semester. She is already 40+ years old, and she has already become a teacher for years, but ended up continuing her study in Quran Sunnah. This should be an example to all of us. No matter how old you are, when you want something, just go for it, especially when it comes to knowledge.
3.Share the knowledge.
In the video, it was stated that knowledge is not to be kept inside. We must share it to others. Think about it, there might be someone that is missing something in their life, not knowing what is right or wrong, and then there is 'us' that are keeping the knowledge deep inside us, without even having the intention to share it to others, or even worst, not really wanting to practice it in daily life.
What I learnt from this class is that we need to have the right intention in everything we do. It determines how dedicated we are towards it. In seeking knowledge, when we know that it is a good thing, we should apply it and share it to others.
One tricky question- what comes first? Manners (adab), or knowledge (ilm)?
How do we know about manners (adab) if we don't learn about it?
This was the material used by the instructor in the usrah:
